Before you start
A role is a set of permissions that decides what someone can see and do in NomadMD. There are two kinds:
- Organization roles cover your team's day-to-day work: the calendar, appointments, clients, staff, and charting.
- Marketplace roles cover marketplace-wide work, like the Dispatch queue, client accounts, and transactions.
You'll need the business owner role to create roles or assign them.
Step 1: Review organization roles
- In the side menu, select Settings, then the Roles tab.
- You'll see built-in roles (like organization.owner) and any custom roles, like practitioner or Dispatcher.
- Select a role to see its permissions. Each permission unlocks one area. For example, organization.appointments:full lets someone see and manage all appointments, and organization.appointments:self limits them to their own.
- To create a role, select Add, name it (for example, "Front Desk"), and turn on only the permissions it needs.
Step 2: Review marketplace roles
- In the side menu, under Global, select Marketplaces, open your marketplace, and select the Roles tab.
- Select Create role to add one.
A dispatcher usually needs both: a marketplace role for Dispatch, and an organization role for the Calendar, Appointments, and Clients.
Step 3: Give someone a role
- In the side menu, select Personnel and open the person's profile.
- Under Assigned Roles, select Assign role and choose one.
- The change applies the next time they load a page.
Common setups
- Nurse or provider: the practitioner role. They see their own appointments and availability, and can chart.
- Dispatcher: a marketplace dispatch role plus an organization role for appointments and clients.
- Owner or manager: organization.owner, plus marketplace.owner if they manage the marketplace.
Tips
- Give people the smallest role that lets them do their job, especially where patient records are involved.
- Missing a menu item? The person's role doesn't include that permission yet. See Getting Around NomadMD.
